AMD Consortium Contract CR1
Marubeni Corporation were part of the AMD Consortium who had the main contract for the construction of the infrastructure for the Marmaray Project. The Consortium also included Alstom and Doğus.
In April 2010, the contract between the AMD Consortium and the end Client (DHL) was terminated. Consequently, the sub-contract between Marubeni and D&P was also terminated. At that time a significant amount of design work had been completed and all of the items marked * above had been manufactured and delivered to Istanbul.
Construction of the Marmaray project started in May 2004. The Marmaray tunnel under the Bosphorus Strait was completed on the 23rd of September 2008, with a formal ceremony to mark completion of the tunnel on October 13 2008. Completion of the entire project has been repeatedly delayed, with the first phase finally opening on 29 October 2013, as the first standard gauge rail connection between Europe and Asia.
