In October 1998, D&P were requested by Railtrack to assess the availability, suppliers capability, cost and delivery time for an underfloor wheel lathe for their maintenance facility located at Selhurst in South London.
The facility at Selhurst was at the time being used by the Train Operating Company Connex South East. The Study reviewed four major manufacturers, and recommendations were made to Railtrack.
Railtrack subsequently placed an order for a tandem underfloor wheel lathe and D&P contracted with Railtrack to manage the design, manufacture, installation and testing of the tandem lathe. (Please see our web page on Management Contracts for details of this contract.)
